Using Mitral Annular Plane Systolic Excursion (MAPSE) and Tissue Doppler Imaging Systolic Velocity (TDIS’) As Surrogates of Left Ventricular Systolic Function

Purpose: Echocardiography has become a useful method for assessing structural diseases of the heart. MAPSE and TDI S’ have also been shown to be reproducible assessments longitudinal heart changes as LVEF is ineffective in cases sub-optimal echocardiographic imagery caused by artefacts or air trapping.
 Methodology: One hundred patients referred echocardiography at cardiac laboratory DELSUTH, Oghara, Nigeria was recruited study. All had trans-thoracic done with M-Mode, 2D Spectral Doppler Tissue images acquired. Data obtained analyzed using IBM-SPSS version 22. A p-value ≤0.05 considered significant all comparisons.
 Findings: Hypertension commonest indication an echocardiogram. The prevalence abnormal left ventricular function 13%, 24% 28% determined LVEF, MAPSE. higher specificity than statistically correlations found between (p<0.001); (p=0.032) LVEF. Multiple linear binomial logistic regression analysis showed relationships (beta=0.423; p <0.001) odd ratios [OR(CI) = 10.80(2.56- 49.07)] respectively LVEF.
